You’ve always gotta assess the situation with a girl on the fly. I think my background playing poker has helped me pay more attention to reading people and situations. Today I saw a girl sitting by herself outside a new Thai restaurant in my neighborhood, so I casually asked her if she’d been there before and how it was. She hadn’t, but we started talking, learned a bit about each other and had a pleasant conversation. It lasted about 2-3 minutes.

As her food was brought out by the waiter, I figured it was a good time to leave. I had made her laugh a little, but in general it was a straightforward conversation. Not enough time to truly build attraction, plus I wasn’t looking particularly sexy or anything.

So instead of trying to get this girl to give me her number, I told her to take mine. She hesitated for a second, but was perfectly happy to type it into her phone, even confirming my name. I told her to let me know how her food was.

Now, I might not ever hear back from this girl, but I didn’t feel like she was going to be comfortable giving me her number. It was just a gut feeling in this particular case. I wonder if the true PUA thing to do is always plow forward and try to get her to give you her number, though.
